‘Drawing from deep ecology, systems theory and spiritual traditions, the Work That Reconnects (WTR) is a set of insights and practices that builds motivation, creativity, courage and solidarity for the transition to a sustainable human culture.’
It is a pioneering form of group work that began in the 1970s by eco-philosopher, Buddhist and systems analyst Joanna Macy. It demonstrates our interconnectedness in the web of life and our authority to take action on its behalf. It has helped many thousands around the globe find insight, solidarity and courage to act, despite rapidly worsening conditions.
The Work supports a revolution of our time: the “Great Turning” from the industrial growth society to a life-sustaining civilization.
Active Hope is an evolution of the Work that Reconnects. It is based on a book by Joanna Macy and Chris Johnstone and it offers a transformational process informed by mythic journeys, modern psychology, spirituality and holistic science. This process equips us with tools to face the mess we’re in and play our role in the collective transition, or Great Turning, towards a life-sustaining society.
“Active Hope is about finding, and offering, our best response to the crisis of sustainability unfolding in our world. It offers tools that help us face the mess we’re in, as well as find and play our role in the collective transition, or Great Turning, to a life-sustaining society.” Chris Johnstone
As well as specific workshop The Work that Reconnects is often woven into many of my Permaculture design courses.
In Cornwall & Devon we have been holding meetings a few times a year to support permaculture & transition practitioners and others who work for Life on Earth. We call them Zone 00 meetings referring to permaculture zoning, zone 00 being our inner world.
This work fits within a larger framework of Facilitation for Life on Earth, supporting people to engage with their passion and power to act for healing the Earth.
This work is also available for business and other organisations in order to support their actions for sustainability. Please get in touch if you are interested.
